Software and Hardware Requests
Faculty, staff, and administrators have two main
sources for software and hardware needs: the Office of Information
Systems (OIS) or your campus TLTR
chair. To determine which source to contact for your needs, please
review the following policies and procedures for ordering software
and hardware.
Software Requests
The Office of Information Systems has site licenses
for a number of different software programs on the college's shared
system. These include, but are not limited to, Microsoft Office,
Adobe Acrobat, and Contribute. Requests for college-supported
software should go through your division dean, who will communicate
those needs to the Office of Information Systems.
Campus TLTRs can help you with more specialized
software needs. Computers in each campus TLTR lab have such software
programs installed. You may also request specific software for
use in your school office or for use in your campus TLTR lab.
Send specific software requests to your campus TLTR chairs. Your
campus TLTR chairs will forward your request to the Associate
Vice President for Educational Technology, Mike Williams, who
will then order site licenses and request OIS support staff to
schedule installation. Faculty, staff, and administrators most
commonly request web authoring tools and Adobe Writer, so Adobe
CS3, which features Dreamweaver, Flash, and Adobe software, is
automatically approved.
When requesting software, please provide some information about
the software and a brief explanation of why you need it.
- Requests cannot be over $500
- Software cannot be purchased for home use
- Software cannot be purchased to outfit a campus
lab
Computer and support staff needs, software needs
over $500, or software needs for campus labs should be incorporated
into TCC's Technology Plan.
Hardware Requests
The Office of Information Systems
handles requests for new computer units or other hardware. Such
requests should go through your division dean, who will communicate
those needs to the Office of Information Systems.
Campus TLTRs can help you with
some hardware purchases, such as headsets for voice recognition/speech-to-text
applications, and wireless presenters for labs and MPS units,
as long as they meet the following restrictions -- faculty office
use, under $500, approved and forwarded by the TLTR chair. Any
recurring costs for these purchases must be absorbed by other
budgets, not the TLTR software funds.
Campus TLTR labs are equiped with scanners and
color printers. A limited number of laptops are also available
for check-out through your campus TLTR lab. Please contact
the Director
of Instructional Technology with any questions you may have
about usage policies or availability of laptops.
