Health Care training
 

TCC's Workforce Development offers a full range of health care training programs.

Programs provide an opportunity for lifelong learning and are available during day, evening and weekend hours.

Some programs may lead to initial certification, including CPR, ACLS, PALS, and Emergency Medical Technician Basic; while others lead to recertification.

TCC is able to custom-design programs to meet the changing needs of health care practitioners and the medical arena. For more information contact TCC Workforce Development at 822.1234.


EMTS 1001

Emergency Medical Technician-Basic
This 18-day accelerated program is ideal for those in the military. The course prepares students to take the State and National Emergency Technician examinations. TCC is recognized by the National Registry as having a very high pass rate on both state and national exams.

EMTS 1002

Emergency Medical Technician Refresher (36 hour state refresher)
This 36 hour course reviews essential components of the State and National Standard Training Curriculum and is designed to assist EMTs in maintaining up-to-date proficiency and certification. EMT-B must be renewed every four years for state and every two years for national certification. Must have current CPR. (Meets the 24 hour required topics for both National Registry and Virginia.)

EMTS 1004-1006

Intermediate/Paramedic National Registry Exam Practicals

The National Registry Exam Practical is open open to all who qualify.  Candidates must pre-register and confirm their eligibility.  Call (757) 822-7335 for exam dates and to pre-register (pre-registration must be at least 21 days before the date of the exam.

Exam Dates for 2008:

       October 11th

       December 19th

(All exams start at 7:30 AM)

Prices:

          EMTS 1004 Practical Exam: 1 Station - $30.00

          EMTS 1005 Practical Exam: 2-6 Station - $60.00

          EMTS 1006 Practical Exam: 7+ Station - $150.00

Registration and payment or authorization to bill a third party must be received 3 days prior to the date of the test.

Pharmacy Technician

This comprehensive 50 hour course will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and take the Pharmacy Certification Board's PTCB Exam.  Tuition includes textbook and materials.

Medical Coding & Billing

This comprehensive 70 hour courseoffers the skills needed to solve insurance billing problems, how to manually file claims, complete common insurance forms, trace delinquent claims, and use generic forms to streamline the billing process.  Tuition includes textbook and materials.

CUSTOMIZED COURSES

American Heart Association Courses:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Provider
    ACLS is for healthcare providers whose occupations or volunteer activities demand proficiency and skill to manage adult cardiac emergencies.
  • ACLS Retraining
    This is the recommended course for retraining and for individuals with extensive experience in adult cardiac management. Text available at the Virginia Beach Campus bookstore.
  • CPR Certification-Healthcare Provider
    Learn to save a life in this one-day American Heart Association approved course. Upon successful completion participants receive a Health Care Provider card. Cost does not include text. Text is available at the Virginia Beach Campus bookstore.
  • Heartsaver: FACTS

              This course consists of first aid, CPR and AED training customized to meet the needs of the

              company. It meets the requirements of both AHA Health Care Provider and Heartsaver 

              FACTS.

  • PALS Provider
    The American Heart Association's Pediatric Advanced Life Support program is designed to improve the skill and knowledge in the assessment and management of pediatric and neonatal emergencies. This course is for healthcare providers (medical, nursing, paramedical, or allied health personnel) whose daily occupations or volunteer activities demand proficiency in the knowledge and skills of PALS. Pre-course study is required.
  • PALS Retraining
    This one-day program is designed to refresh the participant's knowledge and skills in Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Text available at the Virginia Beach Campus bookstore. Call for next scheduled class.

 

Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS)
This hands-on course offers basic EMS personnel complete training in the skills necessary for rapid assessment, resuscitation, stabilization and transportation of trauma patients. (16-20 hours)

Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS) Refresher
This is the recommended course for recertification.

 

National Safety Council Courses:

  • First Aid/CPR-Level One
    This course is for youth, groups, office workers, restaurant and hotel employees. (2-6 hours)
  • First Aid/CPR-Level Two

              Level Two fits the need for corporate and on-the-job worksite training. (8-16 hours

  • First Aid/CPR-Level Three
    This course is designed for safety and health professionals where advanced training and certification are needed. (16-40 hours)

 

Critical Care Updates

These custom-designed courses can be offered off-site. CEU's may be received from the Virginia department of Emergency Medical Services for each session successfully completed.
