May 16, 2008

Joined by Gov. Timothy M. Kaine and local dignitaries, TCC celebrated the beginnings of its new 183,000-square-foot campus in the city of Portsmouth with a gala groundbreaking. With buckets and backhoes, the college ceremoniously honored its original “mother” campus by mixing dirt from that site with dirt from the new location in Victory, a mixed-use development including residences and business. May 9, 2008

Thousands of family members and friends attended TCC's 46th Commencement on May 9, celebrating nearly 1,400 graduates at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk. Virginia Attorney General Robert McDonnell gave the commencement talk, saluting the families and their graduates, saying that America needs self-governed citizens to maintain integrity and character.

May 2, 2008

TCC's celebration and ribbon-cutting for its new state-of-the-art science building on the Virginia Beach Campus drew dozens of dignitaries and community members eager to see the high-tech facility. On May 2, with rockets, physics demonstrations and unveiling of a treasured Ginkgo tree, a sundial and fossils, the college presented the 70,000-square-foot facility embodying the latest in technology and scientific instructional tools. Dec. 19, 2007

TCC's 45th Commencement on Dec. 19 packed the Ted Constant Convocation Center, celebrating nearly 1,600 graduates. Gov. Tim Kaine congratulated the graduates while humorously noting such speeches are never remembered - including one he gave at his own graduation. He credits community colleges with opening the doors to higher education, adding, "Virginia finally got the message that investing in education is important."

May 11, 2007

TCC celebrated its 44th commencement ceremony on May 11 with a speech given by one its own. Hundreds of graduates and thousands of family, friends and TCC community members heard TCC alumna and Virginia Delegate Terrie Suit congratulate the graduates while urging them to get involved, to "be responsible." Dec. 19, 2006

TCC celebrated its 43rd commencement ceremony on Dec. 19, with hundreds of graduates applauded by a full house of family, friends and TCC community members in the Ted Constant Convocation Center. Here are two videos of speeches by:

Oct. 31, 2006

An event that marked groundbreaking for TCC's Regional Automotive Center drew nearly 200 people from the auto industry, TCC, Chesapeake and the community. More than 50 vehicles, parked to outline the "footprint" of the facility, sounded horns and revved their engines as a backhoe broke ground on Oct. 31.

June 9, 2006

With speeches and exciting electromechanical demonstrations, TCC celebrated groundbreaking on June 9 for its new science building on the Virginia Beach Campus. The state-of-the-art facility will measure 70,000 square feet - including a 90-seat planetarium - and embody the latest in technology and scientific instructional tools.
