Types of Giving

Thank you for considering a gift to TCC. If you are interested in making an immediate impact with a cash, credit card, or check gift, we invite you to explore the Campaign Gifts section of the webpage. Equally as important as fulfilling current college needs is providing for future needs by including TCC in your estate plan. If you are considering a legacy gift to the college, please click here.

Campaign Gifts

Gifts to The Campaign for Tidewater Community College assist the college in providing a first-rate education to the students of Hampton Roads.  For information on making a gift to the college, please click here.  For information on specific kinds of campaign gifts,

see below.

Corporate, Foundation, and Community Organization Gifts

TCC is fortunate to have partnerships with many corporations, foundations, and community organizations that value the role TCC plays in Hampton Roads.  As a corporation, giving back to your community is not only good business; it is an investment that yields great dividends through a well trained workforce and an educated citizenry.  Foundations and community organizations are also vital partners who share TCC’s mission of improving the lives of the people in our communities.  The college is grateful for these partnerships that assist students in reaching their goals.

Endowment Gifts

Endowment funds provide for future needs of the college as well as current needs. The principal of the gift is carefully invested and preserved in perpetuity.  Only the earned interest of the invested funds is used to provide annual financial support to the area designated by the donor. Donors can choose to make an endowment gift by designating their gift to the college's general endowment or they can establish a personal endowment fund for a specific purpose.  Personal endowment funds can support academic programs, scholarships, or other programs of interest to the donor.

Memorial or Honorary Gifts

Memorial gifts pay tribute to the accomplishments of individuals who are deceased.   Honorary gifts recognize individuals at a special time in their lives, including retirement or anniversaries.  If you are interested in establishing a memorial or honorary gift fund, please contact the TCC Educational Foundation with your contact information, the name of the person being honored, and your desired use of the gifts at (757) 822-1080.

Gift Planning

Increasingly, donors are choosing to include TCC in their estate plans as a way to provide for the future of the college. In recognition of their legacy gift, our planned giving donors become members of the Godwin Legacy Society. To read about one of our society members, click here. Gift planning is a delicate process for our donors and their families and we value their interests as they choose the best planned giving option. Planned gifts include life-income opportunities and other arrangements that are mutually beneficial to the donor and TCC.

Each type of plan has its own tax consequences, but many will help you make plans to transfer your assets to a charity and/or family members.  Planned giving can help you achieve your philanthropic goals as you enjoy one or more of these benefits:

  • current income tax charitable deduction;
  • avoidance of capital gains tax;
  • avoidance of estate taxes on assets transferred in the planned gift;
  • guaranteed income for you, your spouse, or other loved ones;
  • increased lifetime income;
  • income in retirement years; and
  • tax-exempt income.

These are only a few of options to consider in your gift planning. For more information about gift planning at TCC, please contact Stacy Nixon by phone at (757) 822-1095, by email at snixon@tcc.edu, or by mail at 121 College Place, Suite 616, Norfolk, VA 23510.
