The Tidewater Tech
Prep Consortium's vision is to empower students with the workforce
skills and knowledge needed to be lifelong learners and productive
citizens who compete successfully in the global economy.
Mission
The mission of the Tidewater Tech
Prep Consortium is to coordinate ongoing communication, cooperation,
and collaboration between Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth
and Virginia Beach public schools, Tidewater Community College
and the community at large to assure student access to avenues
of academic and technical education in preparation for a successful
career. |

What
is Tech Prep?
Tech Prep is an innovative
approach linking high school, college, and career preparation with
business and industry.
A Tech Prep Program:
- Provides access to education, skills and careers.
- Relies on collaboration with business, industry and government
leaders.
- Provides technical preparation in a career field.
- Utilizes work-based and worksite learning.
- Requires a core of academic proficiency in math, English, social
studies, and science.
- Integrates rigorous academics with career and technical courses.
- Meets academic standards developed by the State Department of
Education.
- Includes an articulation agreement with Tidewater Community
College.
- Combines a minimum of two years of secondary education and two
years of post-secondary education.
- Links secondary and post-secondary education.
- Continues a non duplicative, sequential course of study.
- Leads to an associate or baccalaureate degree.
- Leads to placement in high-skill jobs in technical career fields.
How is College
Credit Awarded?
High school graduates
may receive college credit for career and technical education courses
taken in high school under an articulation agreement between the
members of the Tidewater Tech Prep Consortium.
- Students earning a "B" or better in selected career
and technical courses and continuing in the same course of study
may receive advanced standing at Tidewater Community College.
- Enroll at Tidewater Community College within two academic years
after graduation.
- Enroll in the same technical Associate in Applied Science degree
program at Tidewater Community College.
- Complete a Tech Prep Articulation Request form, which may be printed from this website.

accepted by the Tech Prep in Virginia state executive committee
as the official Virginia definition on March 15, 1999, and expanded
May 3, 1999.
